Obesity & Weight Loss

Adults

Our main goal: safe, long-term freedom from excess weight.

To achieve our goals, we use the most up-to-date methods for safe and lasting weight loss. We recommend nutritional solutions that we know will help the body work again the way it’s naturally meant to, based on age, body weight and each person’s individual characteristics. In this way, we create a new nutritional reality that fits each person’s everyday life.

Children – Teenagers

Childhood and adolescence form the foundation for shaping behavior in adult life and eating behavior is no exception. Managing weight in childhood is a particular and complex process that requires specialized knowledge and a careful team approach that consists of a qualified dietitian, a pediatrician, idealy a psychologist who all take on this challenging task.

Imposing restrictive diet plans with weight loss as the sole goal can have a strongly negative effect on a child, both psychologically (guilt over not losing weight, weight regain) and physically (inadequate physical growth, menstrual irregularities, reduced metabolism, nutrient deficiencies). For this reason, managing weight in children and teenagers must be approached very carefully, based on gentle weight-management methods aimed at changing eating behavior and adopting a balanced diet that covers their specific nutritional needs according to age and daily physical activity.

Working together with parents is always essential in order to design a personalized nutrition plan that meets the conditions above. This way, weight loss is achieved without deprivation, at a steady pace, while building the right eating behavior for a healthy, confident adult life.

Frequently Asked Questions

The person responsible for a valid assessment and diagnosis of being overweight in children is a qualified dietitian–nutritionist or a pediatrician. The assessment takes into account the child’s age, height, weight and is based on relevant growth charts. If the child’s weight is only slightly elevated, increasing daily physical activity may be enough to address it. If the child’s weight is significantly elevated relative to the growth charts, there are usually additional contributing factors — for example, a combination of insufficient physical activity and overconsumption of high-calorie foods, or sometimes an underlying medical cause such as hypothyroidism. In this case, we recommend increasing daily physical activity combined with a daily balanced diet that covers the child’s specific needs. The goal is to change eating habits, bring weight back in line with height and support the child’s normal growth and development.

The active involvement of parents in this process is extremely important. Working with a specialist dietitian to support and guide children toward healthier eating habits is key to resolving the issue.

Obesity was recently recognized by the World Health Organization as a disease in its own right, due to its direct or indirect link to a large number of chronic conditions. This conclusion is based on numerous robust studies conducted over the past 30 years. Specifically, obesity is directly linked to metabolic syndrome — that is, significant increases in blood glucose (sugar), cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure and intra-abdominal fat (waist circumference). These increases lead, with near mathematical certainty, to heart disease and atherosclerosis. In addition, obesity has been linked to sleep disorders, respiratory problems, gout, osteoarthritis, gallbladder issues, various types of cancer and psychiatric disorders.
